Version 0.2.0 - Floating Island, Energy Tower, and Major Gameplay Enhancements
I’m excited to announce the release of version 0.2.0 of Coin Sweeper, bringing a host of new features and improvements to the game. This update focuses on enhancing the overall gameplay experience, making the game world more immersive, and adding new mechanics that make the game feel more rewarding. Here’s a breakdown of the key changes:
Floating Island and Energy Tower
- Floating Island: The flat surface of the town has been replaced with a new floating island model, giving the game a more dynamic and visually appealing environment. Along with this, I’ve added an energy tower model to the town screen, which will later replace the battery on the main screen. This tower will play a crucial role in the game as it progresses.
- Obelisk Model: I’ve also introduced an obelisk model on the island, representing the ultimate goal of the game—to collect crystals. The lighting on the island has been updated to make it appear as though it’s coming from the Sun, adding to the atmosphere of the game.
Building and House Mechanics
- Building Permits: You can now use building permits to construct houses. When you find a permit, a build icon will appear on every free spot, allowing you to place a new house there. There’s no longer a need to stash a house key (building permit) at the dock station while cleaning—it will be saved automatically as soon as you pick it up.
- House Cleaning and Coins: The game now remembers when house rooms were cleaned and how much was cleaned. An exclamation mark will only appear when a house needs cleaning to function. Clean houses can now collect coins and I’ve temporarily disabled the robot parts wearing off, as it felt disruptive in the current game state.
UI and Visual Enhancements
- New "Town" UI: I’ve replaced the main screen with the island screen. Dust collection and robot management mechanics will be added to this screen later.
- Exit Door Indicator: To make it more obvious what the exit door is for, I’ve added a floating "Exit" text next to it instead of the previous sparkles.
- Coin Animation: Houses that are clean enough to collect coins now feature a falling coin animation, adding a visual cue to this important game mechanic.
Gameplay Improvements
- Dust and Cleaning Mechanics: The dust count in rooms is now adjusted based on how long the dust has been there. If you clean half a room, the next time you visit, there will be half as much dust. Fully cleaning multiple rooms at once is now more rewarding, with bonus time multiplied by the number of rooms cleaned.
- Coin Collection: Coins collected by houses are now added to your balance when you visit the house next time. I’ve also made flat keys add build permits and display the build icon in place of free areas, and increased the duration houses stay clean.
- Robot Charging: I’ve introduced a new robot charging system that’s more fun and visual, featuring an energy particle moving toward the robot to indicate charging.
- Speed Adjustments: The default engine speed of the robot have been increased, making the gameplay feel more dynamic.
This update marks a significant step forward in making Coin Sweeper a more engaging and polished experience. I’m particularly excited about the new floating island and the energy tower, which will open up new gameplay possibilities in future updates.
As always, your feedback is invaluable, so please let me know what you think of these changes. Enjoy the new version, and happy cleaning!
